Meet Melanie

What do you do at Satori: One on one Pilates and group pilates instructor. Receptionist.

Background: I grew up dancing, ice skating and riding my horses in the seaside town of Blackpool in the North West of England. I taught my first ‘aerobics’ class at 16 years old to the mums at the local childrens ballet class and loved every minute of it. After travelling around Europe several times I emigrated with husband to Sydney in1993, looking for adventure. I have a degree and masters degree in civil engineering but struggled to find a work/life balance in my career, this became especially hard when I became a Mum. Fitness and wellbeing was still my priority so In 2005 I decided to leave engineering and completed my Cert III, then my Cert IV in Pilates. I have been fortunate enough to work with a wide range of clients, including rehabilitation, sport, dance and general wellbeing.

It makes me so happy when I see my clients re connect with their own bodies, discover their own strengths. When I see them enjoying the gym and feeling good about themselves that really makes my job worthwhile and I smile.

Favourite food: chips & gravy

Favourite exercise: The teaser (pilates) leg press (gym floor)

Hobbies: Going on adventures with my family, especially my grandchildren. I love giving carrots to my horse, training and doing the odd dressage test with him. I love hiking, travelling and cooking. I would much rather be at the beach, the stables or hiking in the woods than at the shops or a coffee bar any day!
